Hand holding FX-6

The Sony Cinema Line FX6 features the very best of Sony’s cinema technology, making it a solid choice without any sacrifices. Being smaller compared to the FX9, the FX6 has been a delightful addition to the Sony cinema camera lineup by targeting different market divisions. Its primary focus is on filmmakers who want a more compact camera to film quality footage. Though the most common settings on the FX6 can be found quickly and are readily available, it can be overwhelming to navigate around the camera. Below are the best tools and settings to help you get started on your creative journey with the camera.

S-Cinetone

Sony developed the S-Cinetone to offer shooters the option to quickly and effortlessly produce richer content directly from the camera without the need to conduct post-production colour-grading. This picture profile was built to resemble the Sony VENICE’s celebrated cinematic look renowned for optimising skin tones and providing a film-like colour to your videos. Hence, if you’re looking for fast shoots and minimal editing, S-Cinetone is the profile to go.

Electronic Variable ND

The Electronic Variable ND (Neutral Density) filter is hands down one of the best features that exist in Sony cinema cameras. The revolutionary ND filter can be adjusted manually or automatically without affecting the depth of field or shutter angle, letting you achieve perfect exposure even moving between different environments.

Low-light Performance

Shoot between a wide ISO sensitivity range, from base sensitivity at ISO 800 to enhanced sensitivity at ISO 12800. If you shoot at base ISO, you may do so in well-lit indoor settings as well as outdoors in areas with lots of natural light. If you shoot at a higher ISO level, you can get noise-free shots.

While enhanced sensitivity allows you to shoot under low light, in the morning and in the evening.

Seamless AF and MF Operation

The FX6 has one of the most fantastic autofocus and manual focus systems in the Sony Cinema Line, giving pro filmmakers the flexibility of using either mode when the situation calls for it. With phase-detect installed in the sensor, you can expect fast and accurate autofocus when filming. It also features face and eye detection where even if the subject goes out of frame completely, the FX6 will make sure that the autofocus does not move on to other subjects but will continue to stay on the last location of the subject’s face.

Furthermore, the FX6’s AF Assist function provides you with the seamless switching of AF and MF operations. By turning the focus ring on the attached lens when AF Assist is on, the camera seamlessly switches from AF to MF, allowing them to make rough focus adjustments manually. While the MF function enables you to freely manage your camera's focus speed and approximate focus location, the AF function enables you to accurately modify the focus position of your camera.

XLR Inputs

The FX6 has two full-sized XLR inputs on the removable top handle to ensure a smooth workflow. You can connect your pro mics easily, whether a shotgun mic or wireless system you want to mount on the FX6 itself.

The perfect camera for aspiring filmmakers

The FX6 has quickly become one of the more versatile cinema cameras out there and will be remembered for a long time. With the S-Cinetone profile to its intelligent autofocus system, this camera packs a punch with its incredibly complete set of functions and features to work with on your first creative film, all in a single compact camera.
